“Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing, ” states Rollo May.

Congratulations to Caversham for this beautiful website and for creating channels through which the magic and mystery of art can connect us all, no matter where we are in the world. Miss you all!

The Caversham experience has been one of serenity and enhancement. Each day my stay has allowed me to unwind and free myself from the garbage that inhibits the creative process. As I complete my third week here, I can’t help wonder what will happen afterwards. I anticipate I will continue to grow as a writer and artist. It is a collaboration that involves all the participants, leaving each of us with more than we came with.

2010 Open Call for Artists-in-Residence & Exhibition Proposals

    Application Deadline: 2009.7.31

As creativity core centers, Taipei Artist Village located in city central and Grass Mountain Artist Village situated in the Yangmingshan National Park will continue the open call for 2010 projects in arts & culture, creative industry and interdisciplinary & business-arts collaboration for both international and local artists. In addition, to provide another optional spaces for artists to present their works, the main galleries “ Barry Room ” and “92 Art Center ” will also call for innovative exhibition proposals for 2010.

Besides choosing Taipei as the residency location, Taiwan artists can also choose to fulfill the residency through the exchange programs at institutions in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, USA and France up to 3 months provided with funding support and studio space. Artists are also encouraged to reach out on their own to programs worldwide and further apply for additional funding supports through our “Boundary Break-Through Project”. Other than the international open call for artists of any nationality, the competitive category, international artists-in-residency, will continue the “New Immigrants Taiwan” project for Southeast Asian artists, as well as the “Artists from Sister Cities of Taipei ” which was newly introduced last year. Through these projects we wish to make art as the bridge connecting Taipei with cities worldwide.

Since the establishment of Taipei Artist Village , ” Barry Room” has witnessed numerous artists’ creative ideas nourished in Taipei; the newly opened “92 Art Center” in Grass Mountain Artist Village has presented stunning contemporary artworks by artists from Australia and New Zealand . Due to the small number of exhibiting spaces in Taipei and the financial difficulties that most artists encounter, the two galleries will call for innovative exhibition proposals with free space charge.

The application deadline for both artists-in-residence and exhibition programs will be 2009-7-31 (by postmark). Please download the application guideline and form from the website: http://www.artistvillage.org/en_artist_apply.php . Application through email is NOT acceptable.
